Kendra was their mother, and was Muggle-born. She moved the family from Mould-on-the-Wold to Godric's Hollow after her husband's arrest. She told people Ariana was sick and too frail to be seen. It was Ariana however, that accidentally killed her mother.

Ariana was the youngest of the children. Aged 6 she was taunted by Muggle children and after that was too scared to use her magic. It would bubble up inside her and explode out of control, which is why her mother kept her hidden, as she did not want to lose her daughter to St Mungo's. She favoured Aberforth.
